September segments include:

  • MARK DAVIS: Ten years after inheriting the Oakland Raiders from his father, Al, one of the most controversial and combative team owners in the history of professional sports, Mark Davis has finally achieved what no one else has ever been able to do – bring the NFL to the country’s mecca of excitement and live entertainment: Las Vegas. But, Davis isn’t just betting on pro football in Sin City; he’s upping the ante with his recent purchase of the WNBA’s Aces. Davis invited “Real Sports” to join him at the Raiders’ first preseason game, which marked the first time Davis watched the Silver and Black play in the new stadium after a year of COVID restrictions. Andrea Kremer reports. Producer: Maggie Burbank.

  • ULTRAMARATHONER-FIREFIGHTER: Amid ongoing drought and another catastrophic fire season, resources have been stretched thin and firefighters have been pushed to the brink. But, the U.S. Forest Service has a secret weapon — a firefighter who also happens to be one of the country’s top ultramarathon runners. Propelled by his superhuman endurance, Jerry Garcia has played a vital role in the fight to save the forests of the American West. Garcia’s path to becoming such a trusted leader, however, was a rocky one — overcoming a life of crime and drug use on his way to becoming a champion runner and heralded firefighter. Jon Frankel reports. Producers: Daniel Litke.

  • ADAM SCHEFTER (REVISIT): In January, 2019, “Real Sports”  featured the ultimate NFL insider, ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This month, we update our story with Schefter, who is still breaking more NFL news than anyone else in the game.  Schefter married the widow of a 9/11 victim and has raised their son as his own – a bond he shares with “Real Sports” correspondent, Jon Frankel, who did the same. Both boys will be graduating from the University of Michigan this year – 20 years after the tragedy that took their biological fathers from them. Jon Frankel reports. Update Producer: Stephen Lorenzo.

The executive producer of REAL SPORTS WITH BRYANT GUMBEL is Joe Perskie.
