JUSTIN HALPERN & PATRICK SCHUMACKER RENEW EXCLUSIVE OVERALL DEAL WITH WARNER BROS. TELEVISION GROUP

Pact Continues Long-Standing Studio Relationship with Emmy®-Nominated ABBOTT ELEMENTARY Executive Producers/Co-Showrunners

  • Emmy-nominated writers/producers Justin Halpern & Patrick Schumacker (ABBOTT ELEMENTARY, HARLEY QUINN) have signed a new overall deal with the Warner Bros. Television Group. Per company practice, financial terms were not disclosed, but WBTVG can confirm that it is an exclusive multiyear agreement that will see Halpern and Schumacker continue to call the Studio home for their television operations.
  • Under the pact, Halpern and Schumacker will continue to develop, create, and produce programming through their company, Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions. This includes series for Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max streaming platform, external streaming services, the broadcast networks, and cable.
  • Justin Halpern & Patrick Schumacker said: “Warner Bros. Television has been our home for the better part of a decade. “The opportunity to continue to create stories with Channing, Brett, Clancy, and all of our friends in the WBTV family is an absolute privilege, and we are ecstatic to be here for the next several years.”
  • Warner Bros. Television Group Chairman and CEO Channing Dungey said: “We’re thrilled to continue our long-standing relationship with Justin and Patrick. They are not only brilliantly talented creators, but also great leaders and mentors to the next generation of comedic writers. We are privileged to have them as part of the Warner Bros. Television Group family, and we look forward to partnering with them for years to come.”
  • Halpern and Schumacker continue to serve as executive producers and co-showrunners (with Quinta Brunson) of the critically acclaimed hit comedy ABBOTT ELEMENTARY, which returns for its third season Wednesday, February 7, on ABC.
  • The duo developed (with Dean Lorey) and are executive producers of the acclaimed, hit animated adult comedy series HARLEY QUINN for Max. From Warner Bros. Animation and based on characters from DC, HARLEY QUINN has been renewed for a fifth season, with the first four seasons now streaming on Max.
  • Next up for Halpern and Schumacker is the HARLEY QUINN spinoff KITE MAN: HELL YEAH!, a new adult animated comedy they developed (with Dean Lorey) for Max. Also from Warner Bros. Animation and based on characters from DC, KITE MAN: HELL YEAH! will debut later this year.
  • For their work on ABBOTT, Halpern and Schumacker received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series for both of the show’s first two seasons. ABBOTT also won a Peabody Award, the Critics Choice Award for Best Comedy Series, and the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. The series was honored twice as one of the 10 Programs of the Year by the American Film Institute. Halpern and Schumacker have also been nominated for two Writers Guild of America Awards and a Producers Guild of America Award for ABBOTT. For HARLEY QUINN, they won a Critics Choice Award for Best Animated Series, among other honors.
  • The renewal continues a long-standing relationship between the creative team and the Studio which dates back to 2010 with the comedy series $H*! MY DAD SAYS, based on Halpern’s best-selling book Shit My Dad Says. In 2013, WBTV signed them to their first overall deal, which has been renewed several times. Their other projects for the company include HARLEY QUINN: A VERY PROBLEMATIC VALENTINE’s DAY SPECIAL, the comedy SURVIVING JACK, based on Halpern’s book I Suck at Girls, and the DC comedy POWERLESS. They were also consulting producers on WBTV’s iZOMBIE. Prior to their WBTV deal, they were involved with such popular series as COUGAR TOWN and HOW TO BE A GENTLEMAN.
