Turner Sports Green-Lights New Documentary Project in Association with Candace Parker and Scout Productions

Premiering During NCAA Men’s Final Four Programming on TBS, Feature-Length Documentary to Explore the Impact of Title IX as Landmark Legislation Approaches 50th Anniversary

Turner Sports, in conjunction with Candace Parker and Scout Productions in association with Baby Hair Productions, has announced the green-light of an untitled documentary project which will premiere during 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s Final Four weekend programming on TBS.

The feature-length documentary will chronicle and celebrate the societal and cultural impact of Title IX, anchored through the perspective of Parker – a women’s basketball icon & two-time WNBA champion and NCAA champion – from her childhood in Chicago to her decorated championship college career at the University of Tennessee to her legendary professional career in the WNBA.

“Candace’s experiences matter to so many people – especially young women and girls – that look up to her, both for her great accomplishments on the court and as a leading voice in today’s basketball conversations,” said Tara August, Senior Vice President, Talent Relations and Special Projects, Turner Sports. “We are proud to partner with her to tell the story of Title IX through her lens and to spotlight the importance of gender equity in sports.”

“I was fortunate enough to grow up in a time where Title IX afforded me great opportunities and impacted my life,” said Parker, who is also an executive producer of the project alongside her newly launched production company, Baby Hair Productions.  “I am so excited to have the chance to tell this important story for the younger generation to show the significance Title IX has on culture and life beyond sports.”

The film will also feature interviews with key players in sports, business, politics and entertainment to explore the evolution of our country in the 50 years since Title IX was enacted and what the future holds.

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 protects people from gender-based discrimination in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance.  The landmark legislation paved the way for women’s collegiate athletics to grow exponentially in the 1980s and 1990s and has been a key catalyst in the growing popularity of women’s basketball.

Scout Productions’ David Collins, Michael Williams, Rob Eric, Amy Goodman Kass and Joel Chiodi will produce. Additional information on the premiere date and distribution plans will be announced in the coming months.
