Turner Sports Announces Studio and Game Commentators for New MLB on TBS Tuesday Night Franchise

The new MLB on TBS Tuesday Night franchise will feature a heavy-hitting lineup of studio and game commentators to provide baseball fans with top-tier coverage throughout the entire season. MLB on TBS Tuesday Night live game coverage will begin with the San Francisco Giants hosting the San Diego Padres on Tuesday, April 12, at 9:30 p.m. ET, preceded by the pre-game show at 9 p.m.

MLB on TBS Tuesday Night studio coverage will be hosted by Ernie Johnson or Lauren Shehadi throughout the regular season, joined by Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez, World Series Champion Jimmy Rollins and three-time All-Star Curtis Granderson, a trio who have teamed up to provide MLB Postseason studio analysis on the network since 2020.

Brian Anderson and Bob Costas will share play-by-play duties over the course of the regular season, with Ron Darling and Jeff Francoeur providing game analysis.

This season will mark the start of a new seven-year rights agreement between Turner Sports and Major League Baseball including a season-long regular season slate and extension coverage of the MLB Postseason. The current multimedia rights agreement extends the partnership between Turner Sports and MLB to more than 50 years. The partnership represents one of the longest-running relationships between a media company and league in the history of televised sports, dating back to 1973 when MLB games were first televised on WTCG (now TBS).

Johnson is the iconic voice of Turner Sports, a six-time Sports Emmy Award winner and long-time host of TNT’s Inside the NBA studio show. Johnson is currently a studio host for MLB on TBS regular season and Postseason coverage, a role in which he previously served from 2007-09. He was also a play-by-play announcer for TBS’s regular season & Postseason coverage from 2010-19. Johnson has also hosted men’s NCAA tournament studio coverage since 2011. He became a New York Times best-selling author in 2017 with Unscripted: The Unpredictable Moments that Make Life Extraordinary.

Shehadi will serve as studio host for MLB on TBS pregame and postgame coverage for the first time in 2022, after working as a reporter on TBS’s Postseason coverage since 2017. She has also reported on Turner Sports and CBS Sports’ coverage of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship since 2020. Shehadi has worked on various MLB Network shows since 2012.

Martinez has served as a studio analyst for MLB on TBS regular season and Postseason coverage since 2013, sharing the detailed and insightful pitching analysis that only a Hall of Famer can provide. During his legendary career, Martinez won three Cy Young Awards, was an eight-time All-Star and helped the 2004 Boston Red Sox win their first World Series in 86 years. He has also served as an analyst for MLB Network since 2015.

Rollins joined the MLB on TBS Postseason studio team in 2016, following his outstanding MLB playing career. He has also worked as a game analyst for select regular season game telecasts since 2019. Rollins played 17 seasons in the Major Leagues and was the 2007 National League MVP, a 2008 World Series Champion, three-time MLB All-Star and four-time Gold Glove Award winner, spending 15 of his 17 big league seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies (2000-14). Rollins has served as a game analyst for select Philadelphia Phillies telecasts on NBC Sports Philadelphia since 2019.

Granderson provided guest analysis for TBS’s coverage of the 2019 MLB Postseason and joined the network full-time in 2020. In his multi-faceted role, Granderson primarily serves as an analyst for MLB on TBS’s postseason studio coverage while also making creative contributions for projects on Bleacher Report. Granderson is a 16-year MLB veteran and three-time All-Star.

Darling has provided game analysis for MLB on TBS regular season and Postseason coverage since 2008 after serving as a guest studio analyst for the 2007 Postseason. He is also a game analyst for the New York Mets (SNY) and a studio analyst for MLB Network. Darling’s big-league career spanned 13 seasons for the Mets, Montreal Expos and Oakland A’s. He was named an All-Star in 1985, won a World Series in 1986 and earned a Gold Glove Award in 1989, all with the Mets.

Francoeur has worked as Postseason game analyst for Turner Sports since 2019 and added regular season assignments in 2021. He has also worked as an analyst for the Atlanta Braves since 2018, becoming lead analyst in 2019. A 12-year MLB veteran who hit .261 in almost 1,500 career games, Francoeur was originally a first-round pick by Atlanta in the 2002 draft and finished third in the 2005 NL Rookie of the Year balloting. He won a Rawlings Gold Glove award in 2007.

Anderson has been a play-by-play announcer for the network’s Postseason games since 2008 – serving as the signature voice of the League Championship Series since 2017 – and has been the main play-by-play announcer for MLB on TBS regular season coverage since 2010. He was on the call of 2010 National League Division Series Game 1 between the Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati Reds when Roy Halladay pitched the second no-hitter in MLB Postseason history. Anderson also provides play-by-play for the NBA on TNT, the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship and various golf events, including The Match, for Turner Sports, and has served as the TV voice of the Milwaukee Brewers since 2007.

Costas first joined MLB on TBS as studio host for the network’s 2021 League Championship Series coverage. The Sports Broadcasting Hall of Famer has called national baseball games since 1982 with NBC, and he has also been the voice of the World Series and All-Star Games. Costas has worked with MLB Network since 2009.
